Angus Australia and specialist agricultural insurer Achmea Australia are pleased to announce the return of the GenAngus Future Leaders Program in 2023.
The GenAngus Future Leaders Program (GenAngus) is the flagship youth leadership program of the strategic alliance between Angus Australia and Achmea Australia. Now in its fifth year, the program has already supported more than 50 Angus Youth members to advance their career in the beef industry.
Angus Australia members aged 18-40 are invited to apply for the 2023 GenAngus Future Leaders Program, which will be held from 30 May to 2 June 2023 in Adelaide, South Australia.
Participants will attend the three-day intensive workshop with industry professionals to help them start their own business in beef cattle or take the next step in their existing business. The program covers key business skills to support their success, including breeding and genetics, business benchmarking and marketing, finance, insurance and risk management, and more.
Angus Australia’s Extension Manager, Jake Phillips says Achmea Australia’s ongoing support has been integral to the success of GenAngus, which has inspired young people to pursue a career in the beef cattle industry.
“Since its inception, we have seen participants grow and take strength in GenAngus by learning new things, embracing challenges, and overcoming hurdles to become better business owners and young agriculturalists,” Jake said.
“With the quality of applicants each year, we are humbled to know that together with Achmea Australia, we are playing a part shaping a bright future of the Angus breed and Australian agriculture,” Jake said.
2022 GenAngus participant Jarrod Koch recognised the importance of sharing knowledge from one generation to the next.
“Being able to listen to some of the industry’s leaders has opened my eyes to what it is I know and what I do not know. The growth opportunity presented by being among other passionate young leaders was inspiring and encouraged everyone to seek their best version of themselves,” Jarrod said.
Emma Thomas, Chief Executive Officer at Achmea Australia said GenAngus has become one of the leading youth programs for emerging beef industry leaders and the broader agricultural industry.
“As a specialist agricultural insurer with a large regional footprint, we know how important it is for young people in agricultural communities to have access to development opportunities that are relevant to them,” Emma said.
“Aligned with Achmea Australia’s vision of protecting and enhancing a sustainable future for agricultural communities, GenAngus is a unique leadership program tailored specifically to emerging beef industry leaders,” she said.
“The knowledge and skills passed down from current agricultural industry leaders to GenAngus participants will empower and inspire them to make informed strategic decisions for their agribusinesses and their farms,” Emma said.
“By providing young people with the tools and knowledge they need to further develop as leaders, we are supporting the future direction of their businesses and the beef industry. This in turn will help achieve the agricultural sector’s objective to reach $100 billion of farm gate value by 2030.”
